Fantasy Football Trophy This was a unique project, commissioned by a group of guys who started their own fantasy football league many years ago that has since grown to include their children. As this has become a tradition that they would like to see become legacy, they decided they needed their own version of the Stanley Cup. A trophy to be held by the winner at the end of each season for the year that follows, having their name and team engraved on the plates that adorn the sides, to immortalize their win. Their only vision and direction for this build was that it was to be a multi-sided tower with enough engraving plates to span at least 40 years. Outside of that, I was given full creative license to design and build it. Standing 18 inches tall with a 5 inch square footprint, it is composed of twelve four sided layers in total. Each layer is a mini frame and panel box made from walnut with thick red elm miter splines to fortify the corners; they sit atop a walnut base, and are topped off with a red elm cap. A narrow gap allows each layer to sit apart from the others which are oriented with a slight rotation giving the tower a smooth twist that is meant to represent the perfect spiral pass of a football. It's form appears different from every angle and is simply mesmerizing. My customers were not privy to the design before its completion. Their verbal reaction for the first few minutes following the reveal was simply "Wow!" That's all the feedback I need. I am pleased with how it turned out and grateful for their satisfaction.
