Cutting Boards

I understand how hard it is to bring yourself to make that first cut on a beautiful cutting board, but these boards are made to be used.  Every cut that you make is a memory of a meal...a memory of breaking bread with family and friends. Embrace and appreciate each and every cut.

My standard boards are a beefy edge grain butcher block style board. I offer a variety of woods, patterns, and sizes, which are organized in the gallery below by wood type, but I am glad to customize one to suit your preferences. All boards are made to order. End grain boards are custom priced.

The grain of the cutting face is raised (pre-swollen) and sanded out before finishing so it will stay smooth after wetting. Non-slip rubber feet to keep your board in place while you work and finger holds (except small boards) are milled into the ends for easy handling; both are standard features of my boards.

The boards are finished with food safe mineral oil and topped off with a beeswax paste conditioner that I blend in house.  Every board comes with a 3 ounce complimentary can of conditioner (approx. 10 or more applications for a medium board) and instructions for care.

Boards are available with or without a juice groove. Boards are available with or without board stands (oak) for vertical countertop storage. If you would like your board personalized, you can have it custom engraved. A re-supply of board conditioner is available for order.

You will be contacted to confirm, but when ordering online, please indicate your choice of wood type, pattern, size, and if accessories are wanted in your message.

Board Care Instructions

  • Wash gently by hand after use.  DO NOT put in the dishwasher.

  • If your board starts to look dry, it can be replenished by applying food or pharmacy grade mineral oil, which is food safe.

  • Pour a 3-inch puddle of mineral oil on your board.

  • Spread the oil coating the surface (add more as needed to evenly coat).

  • Let it sit for about 10 minutes, then wipe off any excess with a clean cotton rag.

  • Apply a second coat until the board is saturated.

  • Let it sit for another 10 minutes, then wipe off the excess.

  • Apply a final seasoning coat of the 1812 board conditioner supplied with your board. Put a dollop of paste on your board in a few locations and rub it into the board using a clean cotton rag. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes, then rub it  further using small circular strokes with a clean cotton rag, then wipe and buff lengthwise with the grain until there is no residue on the surface and it is soft and smooth. After it cures for a couple of hours, it should be soft to the touch and ready for use again.

  • Repeat this process as desired whenever it looks dry.
