Boxes
Everyone has stuff; some special, some not so much. The special stuff deserves a special place to keep it, and where better than a beautifully crafted custom made box....at least the small stuff anyway. If you have collectibles, keepsakes, jewelry, grandmas secret recipes, a stash of cash, your prized bottle cap collection, or some other special stuff that needs a home, I can custom design and build a box just for you.
I invite you to check out the project builds in the gallery below. All can be made to order or I would be glad to design and customize something to suit your specific tastes or needs. Some of these items may be in stock and can be purchased now; Contact me to inquire about availability.

Mosaic Tile Box

Mosaic Tile Box
Puzzle Box - Mosaic Tile Lid This box is one of three that were made to store vintage wooden puzzles. The box measures 10" by 10" square and 3" high. The body is made from walnut and the lid is a mosaic of tiles made from walnut, birch, cherry, butternut, red elm, and red oak. These puzzles were made by my customers great great uncle. They were made in the early 1900's using a treadle powered scroll saw. They had been passed down through several generations and she plans to pass them on to her grandchildren, but they had been stored in cardboard gift boxes for years and thought they deserved something nicer. Her grandchildren will be the 6th generation to possess these puzzles. It is an honor that my boxes will be part of the history and future of these awesome puzzles.

Dungeons & Dragons Gaming Accessories Storage Chest

Dungeons & Dragons Gaming Accessories Storage Chest
Gaming Accessories Chest This chest was designed to resemble a version of a treasure chest and was inspired by the role playing game Dungeons & Dragons. My customer is a Dungeons & Dragons gaming enthusiast and wanted a custom chest to store and transport his gaming gear. It is rife with a lot of details that meet his needs and pay tribute to the game. It is made from red oak and has a

The Swiss Cheese Keepsake Box The name for this box was an obvious choice. The body of the box is made from cherry. The top and liners backing the Swiss cheese holes are yellow birch. The feet and handle are made from black walnut. It measures 8” wide by 12” long by 5” tall. It has a clear finish to showcase the natural color and beauty of the wood. It can be made from any combination of species with or without holes. Of course….without holes, we can’t really call it the Swiss Cheese box any more now can we.

Coin Collection Box This set of triplets were custom made to each hold ten individual coin collection sets. They were gifts to my customers grandchildren. The box the collections came in could barely be called cardboard, and a collection such as these deserve better. The box is made from walnut with a white oak top. The top is a raised panel with a stop hinge that opens the lid to just the right position.

Recipe Box This recipe card box was custom made for the wedding of a couple who asked their friends and family to share their favorite recipe with them. The box is made from walnut with a spalted maple top. It will hold 4x6 recipe cards. The top is a raised panel hinged lid. What a brilliant wedding gift idea for anyone looking to marry off a kid or two and want to make sure they don’t keep showing back up for dinner. Teach someone to fish…..

Virgin white oak growth rings

Keepsake Chest This chest was made to store keepsakes, but could just as easily be used to store ammunition or a stash of candy; its just that universal. It measures about 8" high, 14” long, and 8” wide, and is adorned with antique reproduction handles and latch. The box is made from white oak with a maple stripe and the top is a raised panel hinged lid made from Tamo ash. Aside from the stunning and very rare figured ash, the white oak makes it equally special. The white oak lumber came from logs that had been recovered from the bottom of the St. Lawerence River in Jefferson County, NY. The logs (all axe cut by the way) had sunk sometime in the late 1800’s or early 1900's after the wood raft they were being transported on had broke apart. Submerged in the cold oxygen free water, the logs were perfectly preserved and protected from decay. Back in the mid 90’s when I was a forester for a sawmill in upstate NY, I had the pleasure of actually being on the boat when the logs were pulled off the bottom of the river, and were then sawn by the sawmill I worked for. I was able to acquire a few boards. The growth rings are incredibly tight, the result of a tight canopy competitive virgin forest (last pic). Pretty special indeed. I can design and build a custom chest like this but unfortunately, the salvaged virgin oak is unavailable and would have to be substituted with another species.

Playing Card Box This box was made to store a collection of playing cards and was custom sized for that purpose. It measures approximately 4" high, 7" wide, and 10" long. The box is made from butternut. The top is a floating raised panel lid made from Tamo ash. The grain is absolutely stunning and extremely rare in north America.
